The Executive Council of CIRAS (Centers for International Research and Applied Science) serves as the organization’s highest strategic and decision-making body. Comprising globally recognized leaders in science, policy, economics, technology, arts, and sustainability, the Council guides CIRAS’s mission to drive interdisciplinary innovation and ethical, equitable solutions for a rapidly transforming world.
Mission
To provide unified, visionary leadership that aligns CIRAS’s 12 Centers with global priorities—fostering knowledge-based transformation, planetary stewardship, and inclusive development through collaborative research and applied science.
Core Responsibilities
- Strategic Direction: Define CIRAS’s long-term priorities, cross-sectoral goals, and global engagement roadmap.
- Governance Oversight: Supervise operational frameworks, resource allocation, Center alignment, and ethics integration across all CIRAS initiatives.
- Diplomatic and Institutional Partnerships: Represent CIRAS in international alliances, negotiations, and multilateral agreements with states, academia, NGOs, and industry.
- Innovation Approval & Scaling: Review and endorse flagship projects, ensure scientific rigor, and guide the transition from prototype to global impact.
- Public Engagement & Leadership: Communicate CIRAS’s vision to the global public and inspire a culture of intellectual integrity, foresight, and cooperation.
Council Composition
The CIRAS Executive Council consists of 9–15 appointed members drawn from its international network of collaborators and member institutions. It includes:
- Directors of CIRAS Core Council
- Directors of CIRAS Centers
- Directors of CIRAS Infrastructure Team
- Directors of CIRAS Ethics Commission
- Representatives of CIRAS Members
Members serve renewable 4-year terms, with rotating presidencies to promote balanced leadership. The Council meets quarterly and in emergency sessions as needed.
